Hey! I'm Genia Narinskaya. hide
I’ve had Emma for a little more than three months now, but it seems like it’s been forever. She’s gotten so much bigger and is pretty much an adult cat now. Yesterday I decided to “document” how she’s grown and took a few pictures. This one’s my favorite.

I spent  most of last week and weekend in Los Angeles visiting my friend Kyle. The picture is of me in an entrance to a private house on a warm spring morning. I’ve never been to LA before that but I did not expect to form such a good opinion about it. The media makes it seem like the city is very uptight and pretentious (think MTV “Cribs”), but the vibe I got from LA was relaxed, peaceful and energetic. I can’t even explain how peaceful and energetic can be two valid descriptors of one place, but it seems like it’s possible.
I absolutely fell in love with the nature and especially Rynyon Canyon. You can see the most amazing views for it and get pretty amazing exercise. I loved looking at the city during the day and at night. The people I met were nothing but friendly and down-to-earth.
I know that each city has its not so glamorous sides, but I enjoyed Los Angeles and it’s vibe. Can’t wait to go again!
This image is a little bit deceiving: it looks like it’s warm and sunny, but it’s actually around 25F. It’s freezing. I think this is my favorite thing about taking pictures in early spring. You never know what the weather is actually like.

Sometimes I see compositions and effects that I know will look good as a still image. This is definitely the case. This picture is a combination of reflections, transparency and metal industrial elements such as concrete and metal. No photoshop involved.

Soon it’s gonna be three months since I got my kitten Emma. She looks like a grownup cat now and is quite the character. Yesterday I saw someone taking a portrait of their dog. I caught myself thinking my cat would never sit still for that long. Funny enough, I took this shot a few others when Emma was actually posing. Great!

There are days when I love Kansas City and days when I just don’t want to be there. Last night, however, was beautiful. A design party I went to at a local firm Liquid 9 was held in their space and there was a nice little rooftop with this view of downtown. I wish it was a little warmer, but spring is here and it’s just gonna get better from here.

I love spring. Each day brings new changes and everyone gets excited to see what else is about to come. After the evil storms and wind chills even a little change for warmer temperatures is exciting. You can see more in my Flickr set Unexpected Spring. Lovely!

I love Mad Men.  I love the show not because it’s trendy or popular, but because it’s actually great. Some say that nothing happens in the show and I can’t disagree more. Mad Men is more focused on the character revelation than the typical beginning-culmination-finish action, but that revelation is deep, thoughtful and clever. The show has a great carefree essence to it: unlimited vacations, smoking housewives and men drinking hard liquor at work. It also shows negative aspects of those times: sexism and homophobia. The characters easily say things like “these machines were made so that women can understand them”, but those were such times.  The emotional parts of the show are done extremely well (a good representation of that would be the carousel presentation).
The posted image is a part of a studio photo shoot. Oh the dresses and the men (the women are pretty great too)!
I came across these beautiful type work of Alyson Carmichael. Her hand-lettering is whatever you want it to be: elegant, chunky, goofy or serious. I especially like the phrase We always want something, but then when we get it we want more. ‎”I wish I was where I was when I was wishing I was here.”  In reality the wishing part is the best and not the moment you get your wish fulfilled.
Today the weather here in KC is amazing. It’s close to 70 and sunny. No one remembers the snow storm with a polar blizzard and temperatures from hell. There are little snow patches here and there but otherwise it looks like the recent icy event never happened.
I’m kind of like that. I don’t like to talk about things that upset me. I never have time to talk about the things that upset me as they happen and after the fact it just seems like talking about those things is not worth it.  I’ve never been one of those people who can talk about their flu for hours or those who can discuss every detail of a breakup.  You might know there was a storm in my life, but on the outside it’s usually calm and sunny.
